What is a Tivo

Tivo∞ was one of the first Digital Video Recorders on the market (ReplayTV being the other). It allows you to timeshift Television to fit your schedule, and keeps track of programs you enjoy and records them automatically for you (without any of the hassles of a VCR).

What can be done to a Tivo?

There are many different flavors of Tivos, Series 1 (s1), Series 2(s2), Series 2.5(nightlight). Both S1 and S2 came in Standalone (sa) versions and Directivo(dt) versions.

Series 1 Tivos (sa and DTivos)

• Run a webserver so you can schedule recordings remotely
• Extract files from a tivo to transfer them to another tivo, write them to DVD, or an MPEG file.
• Insert ty files from another Tivo.
• Display text to the Tivo screen (weather alerts, etc)

Series 2 Tivos(sa and Dtivos)

• Everything you can do with a S1 tivo EXCEPT Display text to the Tivo Screen.
• You can add Multi Room Viewing(MRV) to a DTivo (Via 4.x software or 6.2).
• You can add Home Media(HMO) to the DTivo (Via 4.x and 6.2(?))
• Display weather maps, as well as other interactive graphics.
